I had a rare opportunity to spend the day in LA yesterday. One of the ladies from You Look Fab was going to be in town, and we managed to get a group of 'Fabbers' together at the last minute. These get togethers are always great fun, and this was no exception. As an added bonus, a few of us were able to make a stop by a new gallery in LA called Wallspace, where a friend of mine has some work on display. It was amazing to see Stephanie's work in person, and the gallery staff were *so* genuinely warm and welcoming to us. They had a lot of really great pieces at the gallery, and since my friend didn't have any prints available, I picked up a little print by Sonja Salinas called "I Love My Bunny..." If you get a chance, check out this great gallery- they also rent pieces.

OK, Pioneer Woman- you do know your way around French Toast.
I've never read her blog, but I hear a lot about it. I watched her TV show the other day, and she made French Toast; and then I really wanted to try it. So, we had it for dinner last night (and breakfast this morning). I did change it up a little bit- she uses half and half (I used 2% milk), and egg yolks (I used a few whole eggs and a few yolks). She also adds more vanilla than I usually do and a little sugar. I have to say that I will continuing to use her modified recipe (since I don't want to have a heart attack at 40). She also dips all of her bread pieces first, then pours any leftover liquid on top, and cooks them more slowly on med-low heat so they cook all the way through. Anyway, it' s a keeper.

Another keeper is this dress from Gap. It's going to be perfect for the summer heat- just swap out the belt for something more structured. The fabric is nice and light, it's a good length (even belted), and it's floaty and breezy without baring a lot of skin.

Life is LOUD!
For the past month, I have not been able to hear out of one ear at all, and this has been happening off and one for a couple of years. I went to the ENT specialist today, and she cleaned out my ears. I can hear again-and everything seems so LOUD! I notice sounds that I don't remember ever being so loud. It's going to take some adjustment to get used to it, but it's a good birthday gift.

I think they are shipping shoes by camel now, or maybe donkey. My order for a a pair of shoes was processed on the 10th, and they are not supposed to arrive until the 18th. I could have driven there and picked them up at the warehouse and driven back home before that! Hopefully, they will arrive early. Fed Ex is not my friend- how do they stay in business?

Today was one of "those" days. The Rusty Knight left for an overnight business trip yesterday, so I am already a little out of sorts when I got up this morning (even though the cat slept with me). At first I thought I would get up and go swim at the gym, but then I remembered how crowded the pool had been the other morning. Then I thought about going to my favorite Water Aerobics class mid morning. By the time I had cleaned up several accidents from the dog, I was shifting my plans to swimming in the afternoon, and spending the day in loungewear watching TV. Then I realized that Princess Stomping Foot had dance class at 4- I would have to be done, showered and home in time to take her. So I picked myself up from the couch and got ready to go to the gym. I got in the car and heard that disturbing click when I turned the key. My car battery has been dying a lot lately, but since I had driven just last night I didn't expect this. Needless to say, instead of swimming at the gym I was charging the car battery. While that was going on, Wonder Teen got invited to go see a movie. Now I have to get Her Ladyship to dance, feed Wonder Teen and drop him at the movies, pick Princess Stomping Foot back up and feed her and myself, and then pick Wonder Teen back up. I hope the car stays charged, since Rusty won't be back until late tonight!
Anyway, I am wearing a new tunic from Lands End Canvas that came yesterday. I had been looking for a floral T shirt style woven tunic for about a year, so I was happy this fit well when it came. I've paired it with Gwyneth suede booties, Target socks, Gap jeans, a Gap Outlet leather belt, Eddie Bauer denim jacket and a hand knit hat.
At least something turned out today!

I hope everyone is off to a great new year. We managed to get a few projects done around the house- with lots more to still do!

I saw the idea to use a mirror for a headboard online. It was the perfect solution for our bed- we have an antique dresser with matching mirror that I didn't want to use on the dresser, and we needed a cheap headboard. This worked out great, although the mirror still needs to be lowered a bit. The bedding is all from Target- except the patterned pillowcase that I found at a discount store. I love that the bead is really easy to make and unmake, and the texture of the duvet cover has a kind of messy look so that even if I lay down to take a nap it looks ok when I get up. Now I am working on getting new alarm clocks for us- hubby's is broken and mine is just ugly. I also want a third clock for my vanity table. Hopefully I can find something cheap and appropriate.

I still can't believe that it's Christmas Eve, and the New Year is just around the corner! I have errands to run today, but they may or may not actually get finished. I've been fighting off a little something, and it seems to be winning. I don't want to be out today, but I don't want to be out Monday either! I made the mistake of letting some supplements run out instead of keeping them stocked up.

I'm still working on the Christmas projects of bedrooms. Wonder Teen's is just about finished- I have to do a chalkboard and dry erase perpetual calendar for him, and dye his closet curtains black, and Rusty is wiring up a lamp for his bed- and then his room will be complete.

I am just starting on Princess Stomping Foot's room, but I am hoping that The Rusty Knight will do most of the backbreaking work while he is on vacation. I have done shopping and little projects, but all of her furniture needs to be sanded/painted and curtain rods/curtains hung.

My room is actually coming along nicely. I need to hang my headboard mirror and decide if I will leave it as is or add fabric covered panels, get the dust ruffle on, paint the armoire, frame and hang some artwork and paint out two small trunks and a couple of other items and find a few accessories. That sounds like quite a lot when I write it out, but my birthday is soon and I want a finished bedroom to be my "gift".

I kept seeing gingerbread cookies in TV commercials, and it made me want to make some. I found a great recipe online- that contains black pepper for a kick. They have a crisp crust, and it was an easy to follow recipe. I picked up some Betty Crocker Icing Tubes for decorating (since I never seem to get the right consistency)- and these things are seriously great! The kids and I are having a good time decorating cookies instead of sitting in the cold at the park. I keep trying to get out of the house to run some errands, but it's so hard to leave when I don't have to!

I found human excrement in my backyard this morning- in an open plastic container, complete with a girly pair of panties for wiping materials. I am *so* grossed out- not just by the product, but the process. How and why this came to be in my backyard bothers me more that what it is.

Here's why I love Target:

1) in the last month I have received about $50 worth of gift cards from them just for buying thigns that I was going to buy anyway.

2) The pharmacy rep managed to get my prescription co-pays down from over $60 to $25 just by re-running them

3) If I need a weird assortment of things like cereal, tank tops, wine and medicine- I can get it all in that one place.

4) save your receipts and they will give you the sale price on any item you've bought in the last two weeks

No matter what you think about their decision to have so many children, losing a baby is a horrible thing to happen.
And another terrrible thing- FACEBOOK!
I don't know how you people do it. My husband finally wore me down and convinced me to get a Facebook account (which I have been staunchly against, mainly for security reasons which don't apply since he already has one that he doesn't use). I had it all of five minutes before I decided to delete it. It's a horrible website, not easy to use, and I could already feel it's tentacles creeping in everywhere. The lack of control that you have over your information gave me a panic attack, and the time that it would take is just not worth the staying in touch. Sorry to those people who have been after me for years to get on Facebook- it ain't gonna happen!

Christmas Progress

My goal was to be finished with Wonder Teen's bedroom by the end of November so that I could start on Princess Stomping Foot's room. Not there, but not far behind. We will probably finish up his desk today. I still have to do something to his new desk chair, age his bed frame, and figure out the chalkboard/corkboard/perpetual calendar and artwork for his room. If I keep the pedal to the metal, I think we can get it all done this weekend.

In the beginning, I hadn't planned on including my bedroom on the Christmas projects, but somehow it has been thrown in there. I got curtains hung over the closet, which has been a huge gaping hole since shortly after we moved in. I'm working on new bedding, because we needed it anyway (and switching out the frame/headboard). I have a couple of things to frame and hang, a huge armoire to paint, and The Rusty Knight needs to make a table top for my vanity.

Let's not even get into what Princess Stomping Foot needs done. At least her furniture can be painted mostly with a roller, and not spray paint like the metal dresser I did for Wonder Teen's room. SO much easier and quicker!

Thoughts on Dressing a Nightstand

Although I love pretty things, and like to surround myself with them, I also like home decor to be practical. I have been fighting with my bedside tables since I bought them several years ago. I love them- they have modern clean lines and romantic mirrored surfaces, but it's what to put on them that I struggle with. I recently (finally) found the perfect lamps for them. The lamps are rather ornate, old looking (although new), and have both mirrors and gold as well as some beading in them. It's a great juxtaposition to the clean modern lines of the tables. We need clocks on the bedside tables, and I just ordered a vintage travel alarm for my side- it's black, which is a color that I am bringing in pops to keep the room a little masculine. Emily Henderson from HGTV was talking about dressing a nightstand for a guest room, and said they should contain a lightsource, clock, candle or flowers to keep it smelling nice, a box or bowl to put jewelry in and a water vessel for middle of the night thirstiness. I don't drink in the middle of the night, or take my wedding ring off for bed, but I decided to add a bowl of flowers and a sparkly box to my nightstand to try it out. It looks so much more homey and lived in. I couldn't believe it. You will have to imagine the pretty vintage clock in the place of the new ugly one, but here's the BEFORE

It's not cluttered, but it looks so much better. I am doing the same thing to The Rusty Knight's side table. He has a really ugly alarm clock, so I will work on getting him to agree to something nicer looking, but I found this great frosted glass tumble up (water carafe with cup/lid), a funky eye glass stand, and I decided to use a metal ashtray that he made in school to hold a scented candle that he still has to pick out. His side needs tweaking, obviously- but it still looks better with stuff than it did without.

I think that I will paint the glasses holder white to make it more sculptural.
You always see candles and flowers on bedside tables, but I never realized they had a function! We really do need something to freshen up the stale winter nighttime air, and I hope I can flowers that I am not allergic to because these particular flowers really bothered me.

I love my clean lined mirrored table nightstands (which I got on clearance at Target quite a while ago), and my new Hayworth lamps from Pier One (which was a special deal, since they were on clearance and I was able to score some giftcards online which I paid less for than they were worth), but I never thought much about what else should be on the nightstands. I knew that they looked empty, but it wasn't until I heard one of the TV designers talk about what should be on a nightstand that I considered filling them up. She recommended water (which isn't an issue for me, since if I drink at night I will have to get up to go to the bathroom), something to hold jewelry (which is also not an issue for me- I put my jewelry away when I get dressed, except for my wedding ring which I sleep in), a candle or flowers to keep things smelling fresh (which we do need!), a clock (we have functional but ugly ones), and a light source (check!). I think that by filling up the table surface, I can actually hide hubbies ugly alarm clock a bit (he won't be willing to switch to something better looking). I ordered him a little stand to hold his glasses at night, and I found a frosted glass Tumble Up for water. I am going to have him pick a scented candle for his table, and put it on the metal ashtray that he made in shop class when he was a kid. My side has a shallow bowl that I am going to fill with flowers, a little box encrusted with mirrors, a gold leafed glass that will serve as my glasses holder, and a new to me (old) alarm clock. I think they look much nicer with that negative space filled up, and the items really make sense.

I am running and running errands today- we were out of town Monday, and Tuesday I was sitting on the couch recovering, so now I am doing three days worth of work today!

I found these black pointe knits pants at Marshall's for $17. It was a great find- and I have worn them 4 times and they haven't bagged out at all. These are the suede Clark's boots that I found at Ross, a vest that I got at H&M Monday, a necklace from American Eagle Outfitters and one of The Rusty Knight's T shirts.

Believe it or not, I am still working on Wonder Teen's dresser (and now the desk frame- I have the drawers done), but I managed to cross another project off the list for his room today: curtains. I had picked up a cheap pair of black curtains with large grommets at the top from Target. I thought the metal grommets were a little more masculine than a rod pocket or ring hook. I had seen someone on a DIY decorating TV show use steel plumbing pipe as a curtain rod, and I knew that was what I wanted to do. It fits perfectly with the steam punk/grungy look we are going for in his bedroom, so we picked up the pipe (cut to size and threaded for free), the flange, elbow joint, and short nipple for the protrusion from the wall. It was pretty inexpensive- maybe the same price as cheap curtain rods, but sturdier. I aged all of the pieces a little bit with craft paint and sealed it with a matte clear. The hardest thing about this project was just getting the placement correct. The curtains reach all the way to the ground, but I couldn't get back far enough to get a good picture of it. I like the way these turned out- and the whole project was only about $50.

This is my latest finished project for Wonder Teen's bedroom. We are going for an aged/worn look with a Steam Punk feel for his bedroom. These were originally a bright, shiny cobalt blue. I gave these a light sanding, spray primed white, sprayed a satin gray, did a wash of black craft paint, a wash of raw sienna craft paint, a wash of burnt sienna craft paint, and a spray of matte clear. The handles got a light sanding, a sponging of raw sienna, a sponging of burnt sienna, and a spray of matte clear. I wanted these to have a rusty effect, and I think it worked out. Wonder Teen liked it so much that he asked to do his bed frame this way. We are currently working on the rest of his dresser (there is a second piece that is slightly wider) as well as his desk and some accessories. I'm glad things are working out so well!

My newest accessory is a little dog that showed up in our driveway on Friday. Princess Stomping Foot has dubbed her 'Foxy', and although we are trying to see if anyone is looking for her- we are prepared to keep her. She's settled into our home pretty easily and has actually gotten our other dog to play with her.

Tomorrow, I have a haircut schedule, and I can't wait! I'm going asymmetrical, people!

Dream Dining Room

With all of the focusing I've been doing on our bedrooms, it has started me thinking about the dining room. Not that I am going to do anything with it right now, but it is the one other place in the house that is really not finished. I've always wanted a dining table made from an antique door. I actually had The Rusty Knight save the legs off of an old table expressly to use for this. They are nicely turned, a good height, and could be refinished. If I can find a nice old door, all that really needs to be done is to add the legs and braces, and cover it with a pice of glass cut to fit. I've fallen on love with the idea of metal chairs for the dining room. Vintage would be ideal, but there are actually new copies out that are reasonably priced. I'm also liking the idea of a mid century modern long and low slung credenza, and a vintage chandelier. Eclectic much?

Why it pays to do your research......

I noticed the other day that handles on the bag that I use for the gym (which is not big enough, or water resistant) are ripping apart. I spent some time looking locally at prospective gym bags, but couldn't find anything appropriate. I found just what I was looking for online, but I didn't just stop there. I always do a google search for the product name before buying. The site where I originally found the bag was out of stock in the color that I wanted. I found the color that I wanted at the same price on a different site, and was able to find a 15% off promo code (with another google search), plus get free 2 day shipping by signing up for a program that is free if I cancel within 30 days. I am paying less (including shipping) for the same bag than I would have if I didn't done my research- and getting it in the color that I want, and faster shipping. This is why online shopping is sometimes better than brick and mortar. But online coupons are also available for your brick and mortar stores. Never go shopping without checking into discount codes/coupons/special deals first!

I thought that I would share this home decorating project with you. I made a chalkboard out of an old picture.

MATERIALS NEEDED

- old picture frame, including glass and backing (I found mine at a thrift store for $6)

- colored spray paint for the frame in your choice of color

- clear protective spray coat in your choice of finishes (I chose glossy)

-chalkboard spray paint

- screw driver if your picture is attached with screws

WHAT TO DO

- take picture apart, clean and dry glass, clean and dry frame- save all pieces

- start with the frame- work in a well ventilated area and put newspapers down to control the mess. Apply a light coat of color using a back and forth motion, and allow to dry fully. Make sure you get the inside edge and outside edges, as well as the top of the frame.

- make sure that you are far enough away from the frame that no chalkboard paint will get on it. Apply a coat of chalkboard paint to the glass in a back and forth manner, first in one direction and then the other (horizontal and then vertical)

- Apply several coats of both the colored paint and chalkboard paint, allowing time to dry in between. Several light coats are better than one thick one.

- Once you are satisfied with the color coverage, apply two coats of clear to the frame and allow to dry overnight

- Place the glass back into the frame and put it back together, using the original picture to keep the glass form rattling around in the frame.

I've been really busy lately with home decorating lately. For Christmas, all of the bedrooms are getting finished. When we moved into this house 6 years ago, there was some furniture bought that needed to be refinished and projects that never got completed. Since both of the kids have recently told em that they want new bedding, we are finishing all of those projects off along with the new bedding, etc for Christmas gifts. The real gift is the peace of mind and tranquility it will bring each of us to have a peaceful and complete environment to call their own.

I keep forgetting to take before pictures, but I am working on my room to get it done and move on to the kids. I rearranged my furniture, and moved out some miscellaneous things that didn't belong in the bedroom. We found a vintage lingerie chest painted all white to house my jewelry. I set up a vignette on top of it with a mirror and a set of little bird statues from the antique store.

I have spent the last couple of days working on my other dressers. The tall dresser had some pretty bad water damage to the top, and I found this product to restore the finish at the antique store. It worked great, although it took a lot of passes to get it completely off. It didn't take care of another spot on the other dresser, but that spot seemed to be where the finish of the dresser had been eaten away.

I've also been working on vignettes for the dresser tops. The tall dresser got a dresser scarf made from antique hand trimmed handkerchiefs sewn together, and a bunch of candles. I had a trio of different height mercury glass candle holders that I topped with shiny gold candles from Ikea. I found a nice cut glass candle holder at the thrift store, and took a vintage cut glass bowl to balance it on the other side and bought quilted looking sparkly gold candles at Joann's for those. The I polished up The Rusty's Knight's grandmother's antique tea set and found a muted gold taper candle at Michael's for those. I need to get more glass marbles to hold them up, but that vignette is finished.

The other dresser is getting an arrangement of ornate gold frames hung above it. I bought a brass oval frame at the antique store, found some old damaged frames in the garage and bought another little square frame at Michael's. I am painting all of the frames (except the brass one) in gold. It's been a long process, and many coats; but I am using cheap crafts paint so it has only cost me a couple of dollars. One frame started out white, the other two were silver. I began with two coats of brown acrylic paint. I just wanted to have an even starting point, and not have white or silver peeking out from behind. I did several uneven coats of an antique gold, then a light wash of a brighter gold making sure to highlight the carved pieces. Then I am going to hit them all with a coat of clear gloss to seal it all in.

I will have to take a new picture of the finished projects.

On Saturday, The Rusty Knight and I went to a flea market and appraisal day at my favorite local antique store. I wore my Tommy Hilfigger suede loafers, Worthington pants from DD's Discounts, a Target top, Eddie Bauer denim jacket and some vintage brooches.

In the antique store, I found a lingerie chest that I liked. I have been wanting something like this for a long time to house my jewelry. Hubby bought it for me as a Christmas gift, and I am having fun organizing everything and finding homes for all of my pieces.

I found this neat calculator that allows you to find out how many calories you burn doing different things. Here is what I found out that I burn:
Pilates: 314
Yoga: 532
Water Aerobics: 268
Swimming: 165
So, for one week I burn aproximately 2500 calories at the gym. To loose a pound a week, according to this I need to eat 1800-2000 calories a day. That's a lot more than I am currently eating. I have been playing with eating more and I think they may be on to something.

I decided to do a fashion challenge over at You Look Fab. The challenge was to take 12 basic items and 6 new seasonal items for fall, and to remix them into 14 outfits. I think that I did pretty well- I could have kept coming up with more combinations if I wanted to. My items were:

#5 same top in a very different way- Dr. Scholl's booties and flower necklace with basics 9 and new item 3

#6 New Bohemian- SE Boutique sandals with vintage brass bangles and basics 1, 6, and 7 and new item 1

#7 can you tell that I love this skirt? Gwyneth booties with vintage brass bangles, basics 4 and 7 and new item 3

#8 makes me wish that I had a fitten menswear inspired vest to pop over this- sandals, leather hat and basics 1 and 8

#9 suede booties and vintage geode slice pendant with basics 5 and new items 2 and 3

#10 is one of my favorites sandals and gold chain with basics 1 and 2 and new item 2

#11 will probably not see the light of day unless I find lighter colored boots- engineer boots and flower hair pin with basics 7 and new items 4 and 6

#12 would also look better with lighter boots- engineer boots and vintage key necklaces with basics 11 and 6 and new item 2

#13 I love this, but would honestly have to find another top since this is just a cami- black Red Wing boots, black tights, Merona plaid scarf, and basics 5 and 3 and new item 5

#14 is a little uninspired- suede booties and bangles from BRO with basics 12 and 2 and new item 1

Even though I may not love each and every outfit here, it gives me some really great ideas for fall. it starts my juices pumping on re-mixing my wardrobe rather than always buying new stuff and it shows me that I can still follow trends without spending a fortune. If you're feeling bored, or stuck in a wardrobe rut, this is a great way to expand your fashion sense.

I've just been really busy with life in general. Today, I took the kids shoe shopping- their feet are really getting big!

I have been so busy that I have been forgetting to take outfit photos. We're heading into a move, so I'm trying to clean, sort, organize, and pack- while keeping on the strictest of budgets (to have more money for the move). Of course, the extra stress is causing my health problems to flare up. At least it hasn't been that hot, because extreme heat on top of that would be miserable! To keep to a strict budget, I am SYC (shopping your closet- shopping ban), and doing more cooking/baking. This morning, I have pumpkin bread and muffins in the oven. I'm going to make a maple glaze to drizzle over them. That should make the kids happy.

My cats caught another bird this morning. One cat was waiting at the back door to be let in with a live bird in his mouth. I managed to get it away from him and back outside, but it's leg and one wing were injured, so I couldn't put it back in the bushes. I thought that it might recover a bit after a few minutes and fly away, but it never had a chance. My other cat stalked it down and finished it off. Poor little baby bird.

Yesterday, we spent a nice day at the park with friends. I wore my OTBT sandals, linen shorts from Old Navy, a top from The Gap, and vintage bangle bracelets. I think that I am getting used to my new haircut. We have a busy day today with Wonder Teen's health class, dance classes for dd and errands to run. At least I remembered to get gas yesterday.

It's nice to be able to blog again- my computer was broken for so long that it is almost strange to be writing again. I'm very happy with my weight today. I had gained back some weight, and although I still have more to (re)loose, I am on a downward turn (lost 4 pounds this week!) and feeling confident again. I find that the only thing that really works for me now is a fairly strict Paleo Diet. I'm actually "cheating" and allowing myself small amounts of sugar, corn and dairy, but at some point I may have to give even those up. We'll see how it goes.

Today I am wearing a silk top that I found at Marshall's, Banana Republic Slouchy Skinny jeans that I cut off, my new nude sandals and some bangle bracelets.

Last night, The Rusty Knight and I went out to dinner and a wine bar with some friends. I wore this lightweight sweater that I had found at The Gap Outlet with a white tank, Levi's jacket, Axcess pants, and bronze flats with my Target necklace.

Today, I'm wearing the other new top that I found at the outlet mall. This one came from Banana Republic Outlet and I'm wearing it with an Old Navy sweater, David Kahn jeans, Apt 9 shoes, and bangles from BRO last summer.

I got the rest of my Mother's Day gifts today- Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb perfume. It has such a nice, light smell to it. I've been wearing it all day, and it smells better now than it did when I first put it on. I'm glad that it works so well with my body chemistry. There's nothing worse than putting on a perfume that you love, only to hate the smell of it on you.
I also got two tee shirts from Threadless in the mail today. One I love, the other I may learn to love.

It's only 10 am and I am already tired!
I have been cooking all morning. I cut up a whole chicken and cooked the pieces in the oven and then made Curried Chicken Salad out of them. I also cooked the carcass and organs on the stovetop to make cat food out of, and I made a double batch of pancakes for Princess Stomping Foot. I decided to skip the park and just have a day at home to get things done (and also hopefully relax a bit!). One of the things on my Spring Wishlist has been a long pendant necklace, and I had found the perfect example at Target. It was brass toned (my favorite) on a ball chain with a brass disc and two fresh water pearl charms. It was $19.99, not a bad price- but I just hadn't had the extra money to buy it yet. Last night, I was at Target (dealing yet again with my ongoing sunglasses issues) and I went to 'visit' my necklace. There was now only one left, and it had been marked down to $7.49! Of course, I snatched it up. It makes me so happy when the perfect item gets marked down that much.

Summer dresses are finally hitting the stores, and I am running around trying to collect as many as I can. It seems like summer dresses are really only in stores from mid- April until mid-June (even though I wear them for six months in my climate), so I have to snap them up when I see them. I'm also on the hunt for just the right pair of sandals- strappy, nude, wedge heel but not too high.....haven't found them just yet.

Since spring weather has finally hit, I am starting to think about my Spring Lust List. These are the items that I'd love to incorporate into my transitional wardrobe:

1) nude toned flat oxfords like these

2) skinny cargo pants

3) floaty tops

4) stretch blazers- like this and this

5) clogs- like these

6) leather and suede bracelets (like the ones at Target)

7) long pendant necklace (which I also saw at Target- it had a brass disc and a pearl charm)

That's not so much, right? Of course, that doesn't include summer- tee hee. Well, for summer all I really want are dresses, bangles, sleeveless tops and wedge sandals. I might need some smaller shorts, too.

I'm sporting a new make up look now- I went to the eye doctor yesterday and found out that I have a problem with the glands in my eyes. I am undergoing treatment, but that means no eye make up for a while, so I am opting for a bolder cheek/lip.

Yesterday, I was sans kids, so I did some shopping.

Yesterday started with the grand intention of cooking Curtis Stone's Pork Roast with Apple Compote and Honey Glazed Carrots for dinner. I didn't realize that I had picked an 8 pound roast! By the time I was thinking about dinner, it was too late to cook that beast. So, I made the Apple Compote (substituting regular Brandy for the Calvados) with pancakes and bacon instead. We have leftover compote to have when I do make the roast tomorrow, and that will be one less thing to do at that time. Today, the kids went to work with The Rusty Knight, so I am taking advantage of the quiet .......... going to the doctor and cooking Coq Au Vin. LOL I made chicken stock in the crockpot last night and infused it with the bacon this morning already- the house smells wonderful!

The weather has really started warming up already. I'm running around and doing errands today, but halfway through the day I am already running out of steam!

This has been one of my favorite tops for a long time, and it is finally at the point where I can no longer wear it without a cami underneath (because the front is so low now due to weight loss). It makes me sad to thinkt hat I will have to give it up soon, when I haven't found a replacement!

I have been wanting a pair of nude colored oxfords for some time now with no success, and I think that I may be ready to try again. I found these at DSW, and the reviews seem good. I like the color, the style, and the price, and the reviews say they run wide (which I need).

I'm working my way back towards the weight that I had lost with a goal of even more. If I could only make my body take it off my lower half instead of my ribcage!

It's spring?!? Nobody told the weather! We're back to winter weather all week here.

I was so inspired by the April issue of In Style magazine, that we are doing an "Inspired by In Style" challenge this week on YLF. Today's outfit was actually inspired by a photo of Demi Moore from the magazine. It's also day one of my weekly wardrobe plan.

This morning, Angie published her Must Have list for Spring/Summer. I love her lists, and this one contains items that are already on my radar.
1. Flared Jeans
I am looking for just the right pair of replacement David Kahn Lauren fit jeans from ebay in the next size down.
2. Soft Blouses
Everyone keeps saying that this is the season of th eblouse, but I am still having a really difficult time finding any that are perfect- I've got my eye out.
3. Fit and Flair Frock
Not my favorite style, but I think the dress that I am going back to Kohl's for counts
4. Striped item
I've been wanting a shirt and not finding the perfect one, but I may have to go back to Seasr and see if the striped blazer is still there.
5. Trousers
CHECK picked those up yesterday
6.White
I have my white lace tunic, and as it's getting small I might replace it with another version
7. New Colors
I'll leave the brights for others, but am willing to go for more muted shades
8.Wedged Sandals
I am on the hunt for the right pair of these for summer
9. Low Heels
I'll leave kitten heels to others, also, but most of my boots/booties have a low heel
10.Long Pendant necklaces
I just picked up some inexpensive chain to start wearing some old keys as necklaces, and I have another geode pendant that I am looking for a chain to wear with. I am also watching some other long necklaces on ebay (and will be checking the thrift stores)

I got an awesome deal at the drug store that I just have to share. CVS has L'Oreal Youth Code products on sale this week. The Serum Intense (which I really like) is on sale for $22- plus you get a $5 reward voucher back with a $20 purchase. When I went into CVS and scanned my card, the machine printed up a $4 off $20 beauty purchase. I combined that coupon with a $2 off manufacturer coupon, and L'Oreal is also offering a $5 rebate on the Serum Intense. When all is said and done, I am getting a $25 product for $6. Not bad!

I didn't manage to get pictures of my Thursday and Friday outfits, but I am enjoying having a weekly wardrobe plan done so much that I did it again!
Here's this week:

I had a chance to go shopping today, and I had some great finds at Kohl's. I found a pair of comfortable flat shoes that are not quite sandals, a pair of brown pants, and a dress that I left there, but I will go back tomorrow and try to find. I used a 20% off coupon on my pants and shoes (the shoes were on sale, the pants were on clearance), and I earned $10 in Kohl's Cash. The dress is also on clearance, and with the Kohl's Cash it will be a really good deal. I'm so excited to have found pants that fit!

After trips to nine different local optometrists offices, I have finally found my new pair of glasses! I just have to get them ordered, now.

The Rusty Knight and I have an appointment with our lawyer this morning, so I have a chance to dress up a little bit. I'm wearing:
